This still life (banketje or banquet) has been inspired by the paintings of Willem Kalf's and its followers, Unlike typical Kalf paintings who used dark almost black backgrounds, this is a good example of the chiaroscouro technique popularized by Caravaggio.

I grew up admiring classic paintings, specially the Renaissance and the Dutch Golden Age periods.There is one particular feature of Dutch Golden Age paintings that led me to believe that I could try to reproduce them. Their level of detail is unparalleled in painting history, they look like photographs. Some are so detailed, that they can trick you into the removal of an ant or to scare away a fly.
