Description
This photo was inspired by Kalf's "Still Life with a Chinese Porcelain Jar" (oil on canvas, 1669) which can be seen at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. I previously tried to recreate the composition and lighting as close as the original as possible. You can see my first shot here and compare. https://levin-rodriguez.pixels.com/featured/1-kalf--still-life-with-a-chinese-porcelain-jar-levin-rodriguez.html
Wilem Kalf started this style of still life with opulent, luxurious objects during the Dutch Golden Age. A Chinese porcelain bowl or Turkish rug were very expensive items in XVII Dutch Republic. Nobody knows why Kalf decided to do this type of paintings or what he wanted to express. That being said, he incorporated some vanitas symbols in this masterpieces (watches). Maybe he felt a bit of guilt.
