This still life (banketje or banquet) has been inspired by the paintings of Willem Kalf (1619-1693). Kalf was the creator of the Pronkstilleven or Ostentatious Still Life. His paintings displayed rare and expensive objects owned by the wealthy Dutch in XVII century Holland.They also included 'vanitas' symbols like decaying flowers or watches.
