Artist's Description

Inspired by Johannes Vermeer "Young Woman with a Water Pitcher" c. 1664-1665 (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY).
This is another Vermeer’s “still life”, or life still as the young woman looks like frozen, her gaze lost looking through or at the window. What is she doing? Looking at the stained glass work? A fly? Nobody knows.
Your guess is as good as mine. In my photographic-painting; Beatrix, one of Vermeer's daughters is opening a window to let the fresh air come in. An incoming cool morning breeze touches her face inducing a smirk from the pleasant sensation. She just stood there to enjoy it, forgetting that she should bring the water pitcher to her mother who is waiting.
I had to work hard and innovate to obtain the bluish hue on the girl's bonnet. This is one of Vermeer's trademarks, his use of the ultramarine blue to treat light is well documented. He profusely used lapiz lazuli, hence the longevity of the intense and beautiful color blue in his paintings.
